“We’ve been crazy busy,” owner Michelle Tatum said. “We have been so blessed and welcomed by this neighborhood.”

The location at the Medallion Center, 6464 E. Northwest Highway, is the second in Dallas and one of several in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Frisco, Plano and Garland.

The shop that readers once voted the best in Lakewood and East Dallas has rotating flavors  like birthday cake, red velvet and maple bacon that will satisfy customers…and their dogs. The eatery offers a carrot cake “pupcake” with peanut butter icing and a Milk-Bone on top.

“People are loving that because people love their dogs around here,” Tatum said. “We tried them before we put the Milk-Bone on top. If your dog doesn’t like them, you can still eat them.”

The cupcakes are made fresh daily, and Tatum often donates the leftovers to parent-teacher associations, as well as local police and fire departments.

Smallcakes also sells ice cream, malts and a cupcake ice cream sandwich called the “cupcake smash.”

“We’ve been selling a lot of ice cream,” Tatum said. “If people like ice cream, it doesn’t matter if it’s cold outside.”

Smallcakes premiered in Dallas in 2013 at Mockingbird Station, but the location closed when the owners moved out of state. The East Dallas eatery has plenty of parking and a dining room, which Tatum said she hopes can be used for birthday parties and group planning meetings.
