An Arabian-themed gala is galloping into Dallas thanks to Lakewood neighbors Annie and Teal Griffeth.

The couple will co-host the 38th fundraiser for the nonprofit Equest, which provides horse therapy to children and adults with learning disabilities. The nonprofit also serves veterans with adjustment challenges.

It’s a cause that is close to the Griffeths’ heart. Teal served in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret for nearly seven years, and Annie’s father and brother suffered from PTSD.

The fundraising gala on March 23 will be the couple’s first active role in the organization, although they’ve been loosely involved through Teal’s mother, who has volunteered there for years.

“It’s always been in our family,” Teal said. “We wanted to be involved in the community, and it was a natural fit picking up the torch.”

At the gala, guests can expect a cocktail reception, dinner and music from DJ Lucy Wrubel. There will also be photo opportunities with miniature horses and a live and silent auction that includes some of Annie’s artwork.

Annie, a modern pop artist, will donate three pieces that feature a monkey, elephant and, of course, an Arabian horse.

“We were praying together every night for God to use our talents to do something amazing for someone else,” Annie said. “This opportunity came out of the blue, and everything in me said, ‘This is it.'”
