Drop boxes will be placed at Skillman Southwestern Branch Library, Lakewood Branch Library, White Rock Hills Branch Library and Lochwood Branch Library. Donations are being collected Aug. 1-11.

Supplies such as No. 2 pencils, notebooks, rulers, ballpoint pens, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks, lined paper and washable markers are being accepted, according to a newsletter from District 9 City Council member Paula Blackmon.

The first day of school for Dallas ISD is Aug. 14.

Economically disadvantaged students and their families can access school supplies and services such as vision exams, dental screenings and immunizations at the 27th Annual Mayor’s Back to School Fair. It’s scheduled for Aug. 4 at Fair Park inside the Automobile Building and Centennial Hall.

To receive free school supplies, families must register their students ahead of time. For Dallas ISD students, families must present a student ID number. For students who live in the city of Dallas but attend other schools, families must show a photo ID, proof of residency in Dallas (such as a utility bill or mortgage statement) and proof that their household income is equal to or less than the 2023 Federal Poverty Guidelines.
