This weekend is the Lakewood Home Tour. Check out some of our neighborhood’s most beautiful homes on Saturday and Sunday during the day, with a candlelight tour on Sunday night. This year’s theme is “We are Lakewood: Remembering our neighbor, Vickie Thompson.”  Tickets are $15 ahead of time and $20 at the door. Get all the details here.

Documentary producer and lecturer Kate Winkler Dawson will be joined by Michael Merschel of the Dallas Morning News for a conversation about Dawson’s true crime book, “Death in the Air: The True Story of Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City.” The conversation will be at Half-Price Books on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Dawson will also sign books, which will be available to purchase.

The Arboretum is presenting “Chef-Tastic” on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chef David Gauthier from Smoky Rose will show off his skills in the demo kitchen at a Tasteful Place. The event is free of charge with admission to the Arboretum.

Lakewood Shopping Center’s Blow Salon has moved further north on Abrams, where it will host a grand opening party Thursday night from 6-9 p.m. at 5770 Abrams Road. There will be music, food, and drinks as well as paparazzi on site, so dress to impress. The event is free.

Watch a movie on the soccer field behind Stonewall Jackson Elementary to raise money for the school’s prolific garden on Friday night. The movie, which is being on voted on today, starts at 7 p.m. There will be pizza, popcorn and drinks available for purchase. Admission is free.

Help out the C.C. Young Benevolence Fund at the 2017 Wrap It Up Luncheon, Christmas Boutique and Fashion Presentation. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Brook Hollow Golf Club, 8301 Harry Hines Boulevard. Tickets begin at $175. Lakehill Prep’s musical theater students will perform “Camelot” on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. A preview of the Arthurian musical will be performed for Lakehill students on Nov. 10, at 8:45 a.m. Tickets are $15.

Community members can join Woodrow Wilson students to bring supplies to the Aldredge House on Swiss Avenue this Saturday to make meals for the hungry in the community. Neighbors will assemble the meals and then distribute them to Juliette Fowler residents in need and the Woodrow Peace Pantry.

The Angelika Film Center will be hosting the second annual Sheed Persian Film Festival this weekend. Many of these film will have their U.S. premiere during the festival, which is Friday through Sunday. Tickets for multiple shows range from $26-$78.

On Sunday, Opaline Salas will host a conversation with Emaan Majed, a slam poet from Lahore, Pakistan at Lucky Dog Books in Casa Linda. Majed works to provide arts opportunities for young women in her home country. The conversation will be from 2 to 4 p.m.
