Remember that summer when at least five semi trailers got sardined at the old Garland Road train trestle? It was only about 12 feet high, which was more than a foot too low for semis to get through.

The city had to tear it down. And a new bridge is going up over Garland Road near the spillway this week.

The leg of the Santa Fe Trail connecting to White Rock Lake is almost completed. The city and the Texas Department of Transportation are putting the new bridge pieces together starting with the piece that goes over the northbound lanes Tuesday at 9 p.m. Work will begin on the piece that goes over the southbound lanes starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Traffic will be reduced to three lanes while the crews are working.

That portion of the trail is expected to open by the end of the year.
