Former Dallas County Schools Superintendent Rick Sorrells is still awaiting sentencing in relation to a school bus camera scandal that cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
The Forest Hills resident pleaded guilty to wire fraud last year, the Dallas Morning News reported. He admitted to taking more than $3 million in bribes and using it on credit card debt, taxes, cars, jewelry and an apartment in New Orleans. He is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
Preston Hollow neighbor Robert Leonard Jr. was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison for bribing Sorrells, former Dallas City Council member Dwaine Caraway and former Dallas County Schools board president Larry Duncan to benefit his company, Force Multiplier Solutions.
Leonard, 71, paid more than $3.5 million to secure contracts for his company to install cameras on school buses to purportedly keep children safe and catch cars that don’t yield to school bus stop signs. Leonard and his company earned $70 million from the deal while swindling taxpayers out of millions.
