North Texas’ natural landscape and ecological makeup are being brought to light in Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth.
Amy Martin, author of Itchy Business: How to Treat the Poison Ivy and Poison Oak Rash, Prevent Exposure and Eradicate the Plant, and co-author of Speaking of Mother Earth, is releasing her fourth book this summer. Martin’s latest work focuses on the nature of Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties and features a chapter on White Rock Lake.
“Nature is more than someplace we visit — it’s where we live. Discover North Texas’s rare prairies, diverse bottomland forests, limestone escarpments, wetlands, and more, as well as the river that defines us, the Trinity,” the book’s website says.
Containing details on over 100 species of flora and fauna as well as 350 photos, the book is intended to bring the nature of DFW alive. Martin’s book also includes 25 hiking routes and dozens of area maps.
Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth will be released July 11 by Timber Press. This is the third book in the publisher’s Wild series.
The Bath House Cultural Center will host a release party for Martin’s book August 18 at 7 p.m. A special talk regarding White Rock Lake and its surrounding area ecology will be given and local nature groups will be present. Organizations attending the “pop-up eco-fest” include Blackland Prairie chapter of Native Prairies Association of Texas, For the Love of the Lake and more.
