If you’ve ever wandered into a coffee shop and realized you’ve forgotten your book at home, there’s no need to worry, a new bookstore and coffee shop fusion place, Read Shop, is a literary oasis with coffee beans.
Located at 2730 N. Henderson Ave., Read Shop lives in the old Emeralds to Coconuts apparel shop. The new coffee shop opened June 9 and comes from Atlanta, it is owned by Dan Collier, the owner of Daniel Richards.
Collier also owns similar concepts in Deep Ellum, including Archer Paper Goods and Proper Wax Candle Shops.
Drinks at Read Shop will be made with beans from Portland-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters. And like The Merchant, Read Shop will also sell some gift items and plants, just not as many. He also owned The Merchant on Lower Greenville which combined coffee and books into one shop, however the store closed in 2022 and was replaced by Crossroads Trading Co.
“It’s a bookstore first and foremost,” Collier previously told the Advocate.
Read Shop is two stories and offers a kids section upstairs and seating throughout for lounging. There is also an outdoor patio to read and sip beverages.
