As most of us know, Southern Methodist University was chosen as the site of the Bush Presidential Library, and consequently, the stretch of Mockingbird between the campus and 75 (which is frustratingly busy) will be losing the shopping strip with La Madeleine and Pokey O’s.
Pokey O’s is known for its ice cream sandwiches — Blue Bell flavors stuffed between two freshly-baked cookies of your choice. The dessert shop opened its first and only location in the strip in 2006, and because of the impending library construction, plans to stick around until 2011 and then pack up and move out — to Plano.
The exact location is still uncertain, but the Shops at Legacy is a possibility. Pokey O’s also is looking to open new Dallas locations over time.
I don’t know about you, but moving from Mockingbird to northern Plano is a far stretch for the residents and students who love to visit Pokey O’s frequently. So eat as many ice cream cookie sandwiches as you can for the next three years.
