Two Dallas women, Eva Brandys and Ewa (also pronounced “Eva”) Korzeniowska, are well on their way to opening the Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts in East Dallas later this month.
It is located in a space tucked away behind Gaston-Garland-Grand, right next door to Cane Rosso White Rock and On Rotation, and it might look a little messy right now — as spaces usually do during the final stages of construction — but it is extra large and full of potential.
Brandys founded Park Cities School of Music in Dallas in 2010, and although her background is in music, she is now teaming up with Korzeniowska to bring a full range of fine arts to East Dallas, where Korzeniowska lives.
“[Korzeniowska] put this seed in me, and I always wanted to do like a university-type, a conservatory-type program where all the arts are combined,” Brandys explains. “It’s the three basic — visual, music and dance — and they can all collaborate together. I thought it would be amazing to start it at a young age, so children can get used to that before they start college.”
Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts will kickoff by offering a range of music lessons to children from ages 4 months to 18 years, dance classes for children from 18 months to 18 years, and art classes for children ages 18 months to 18 years.
Eventually Brandys and Korzeniowska plan to expand the program to include acting lessons for children, art, music and dance lessons for adults and possibly even cooking or sewing classes.
They hope to unlock the doors for a soft opening by mid-January, and then they plan host a grand opening on Jan. 30 from 3-5 p.m. The grand opening event will include performances, activities and evaluations for neighbors who are interested in joining the program.
