This week we’ll finally learn what “upscale barbecue” is. Lakewood Smokehouse, which we heard way back in June is taking over the space at 1901 Abrams that was left vacant by Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill, is set to open this Thursday, Jan. 7.

The joint received an overhaul that gives it a distinct Texas vibe, and it will serve classic barbecue offerings — brisket, smoked turkey and sausages with sides such as macaroni and cheese, fried okra, green beans and potato salad — but don’t expect to shuffle through a line to pick it up; Lakewood Smokehouse is a full-service restaurant.

The concept is brought to the neighborhood by Jason Hall, the owner of 3 Stacks Smoke & Tap House in Frisco, John Pantenburg and Mike Mullen, who according to an email have been friends and co-workers in the restaurant industry for 20 years.

Here are some food photos to drool over.
