Construction on the new Ginger Man Pub in Lakewood Shopping Center looks like it’s approaching its end, although we still haven’t been told a solid opening date for the location. Inside, the space needs some serious house cleaning, but underneath all that mess, the interior is coming along.
The first thing you notice are the heavy wooden doors, which open up to a small entry way. Immediately inside the door, guests are greeted by a short set of stairs, which elevate the bar area by a couple feet. A long wooden bar anchors the bar space, and sturdy wooden (there’s LOTS of wood, in case you haven’t noticed) booths wrap around the far wall. If I didn’t know better, I’d say the dark wood, mirrors and faux candle chandeliers give the bar a kind of throw-back 1970s cigar lounge vibe — a place where you’d expect to hear Frank Sinatra crooning softly from hidden speakers. However, that’s not generally the kind of atmosphere Ginger Man typically goes for, so the finish-out will make all the difference.
The upstairs patio feels more like a typical Ginger Man Pub. It’s has a great design, perfect for tricky Texas weather. Half the patio is totally outside, and half is enclosed, with sliding glass doors, which can be opened during good weather.
