Peter Morrissey, a kindergarten teacher at the school, was among five Dallas ISD educators who were recognized for their great work. Morrissey was a finalist for DISD’s Teacher of the Year award.

Morrissey is a 17-year Dallas educator who teaches general education and English as a second language.

The honor comes during the College Football Playoff Foundation‘s Extra Yard for Teachers week, which inspires and empowers teachers through resources, recognition, professional development, and recruitment and retention. The nonprofit, formed in 2014, supports teachers in pre-K through 12th grade.

Morrissey and the four other educators were surprised Tuesday with a $100 DonorsChoose gift card. Here are the other recipients:

  • Katelyn Sokol from Stevens Park Elementary School
  • Aaron Steward from Skyline High School
  • Mary Nunley from CityLab High School
  • Maria Sarmiento from Nancy J. Cochran Elementary School
