There’s a brand new transitional living center in East Dallas. Our Friends Place, which bases out of the Oak Lawn area, opened a $1.6 million center called Pauline’s Place in East Dallas on Friday.

With this two-story, 6,909 square feet apartment complex, nine young women ages 18 to 24, who have histories of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness, will have a safe place to live. (The exact location has not been released in order to protect the privacy of the women.)

Our Friends Place president Jill Svoboda says Pauline’s Place will “duplicate” the services provided at the Beazley House, which opened in 1992.

“When Our Friends Place opened the Beazley House in 1992, we offered the first transitional living program in North Texas for single young women who are often overlooked as needing supportive services,” she points out. She then goes on to explain the center helps to “develop vital, independent living skills, emphasizing education, career planning, financial management and other skills while building self-esteem and self-reliance.”

The center was named for the late Sister Pauline Mullen, Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, who served as the site manager for the Beazley House for 13 years.

“Sister Pauline became the parent, counselor, best friend, mentor and advocate for the dozens of young women whose backgrounds left them without anywhere to turn,” says executive director Sue Theirs Hesseltine.
