Residents of Gastonwood Coronado Hills will fight a nearby nightclub operating without the proper permit, says HOA president Scott Clumpner.

The OK Sports Bar at 7315 Gaston is zoned for "a restaurant without drive-in service," according to a permit issued in 2005, but it appears the venue is moonlighting as Latino discotheque, Club Babalu.

Club Babalu’s MySpace page, confirms it has recently relocated to the Gaston Avenue address. It also offers a little history on the so-called famous Club Babalu: "The nightclub was created to accommodate the elite Latino clientele (offering a) new innovative twist of music, style, and entertainment . . . in the first several years after Babalu’s opening, hundreds of people packed the venue 5 days out of the week”

They also claim a 3:1 girl to guy ratio.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but it seems to me that neither the city nor the neighbors are going to be OK with what OK is up to.

Neighbors first noticed the signs for Babalu about two weeks ago, Clumpner says, and they’ve taken steps to fight Babalu’s operation. Apparently city attorney’s office cited club owners once already – that didn’t stop the party last night.
