Check out this interesting story in the Observer about the lawsuit neighbor Roscoe Betz recently won against DART for damaging a creek on his Old East Dallas property.
The 91-year-old Betz is the guy who came to our offices not long ago to offer a scholarship to the most recent Gustavo Ipina Memorial Scholarship winner, Leticia Vargas, after he read her story in the Advocate. He and his wife have endowed a nursing scholarship in honor of Betz’s only child, a nurse who died when she was 20, back in the ’60s in New Orleans, where she had trained at Loyola University.
Betz told me that he invested well in real estate many years ago and wanted to do something with the money, since he’s been frugal all his life and now is an old man. Whatever Mr. Betz does with the $31,000 he won in the DART suit, it is sure to be altruistic.
