Homeowners associations across East Dallas will organize neighborhood events Oct. 1 as part of National Night Out, founded 36 years ago to promote partnerships between law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic organizations and volunteers.

Last year, event founder Matt Peskin flew to Dallas from his home in Pennsylvania to attend a gathering and tell residents his original goal is as worthwhile as ever. When caring neighbors look out for each other, communities are safer, and families are happier, he said.
