An East Dallas man with a violent criminal history killed his wife and shot two Dallas police officers before taking his own life Thursday, authorities said.

Sergio Sanchez, 57, called police to tell them he had shot his wife, 32-year-old Lachelle Sanchez, and then fired at officers when they responded just after 11 a.m. to his home in the 5300 block of Bonita Avenue.

The officers, who have not yet been identified, were shot in the lower legs. They were taken to Baylor University Medical Center in stable condition and are expected to survive.

Video captured on a Ring doorbell camera and posted on Nextdoor shows one of the wounded officers limping to safety with the help of two other police and an officer from Dallas Fire-Rescue.

A SWAT team entered the home just after 1:30 p.m. and found the couple dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police Chief Eddie Garcia said at a new conference that Sanchez had an extensive criminal history and did not want to go back to prison.
