Ava Skipworth, founder of Monster Yogurt, initiated the annual book drive 11 seasons ago after opening the yogurt store in Casa Linda Plaza.

In conjunction with National Education Association Read Across America events all books will be delivered and children will be given a free book fair.

“The more books we receive, the more schools we can service,” Skipworth said.

As a child with dyslexia, Skipworth struggled to read. It wasn’t until her diagnosis in high school and a supportive teacher was she able to complete her first book.

Skipworth’s personal journey with literacy has fueled her to be an advocate for reading and education through initiatives like the annual book drive.

In 2023, Skipworth was a featured speaker at the Regional Conference for the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA). ALTA’s mission is to uphold high standards and provide international certification for individuals in the field of academic language therapy.

Donations of new or used books are being accepted at their location during operating hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
