Interim Dallas police Chief Michael Igo announced his retirement Wednesday during a speech at City Hall, just days after a new police chief was selected.
Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert ultimately decided to name Daniel Comeaux, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Houston Field Division, the city’s next police chief.
Igo, 58, has led the Dallas Police Department in the six months since former Chief Eddie García left the job for Austin city management.
“Serving as interim chief of police for the city of Dallas has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Igo said during the meeting. “I want to sincerely thank the city manager and the city council for your trusted support throughout this transition.”
Prior to serving as interim police chief, Igo was DPD’s executive assistant chief. Igo has 33 years of law enforcement experience, all with the Dallas Police Department. In 1997, he was promoted to senior corporal and from there went on to become a sergeant, lieutenant, major, deputy chief and assistant chief. He was promoted to executive assistant chief earlier this year.
