Martini’s is the new restaurant that is next door to the old Arcadia on Greenville.
There is no real theme to its food. It has a small selection of seafood, Italian food and nouvelle cuisine all rolled into one. The name does lend to the idea that it probably has the best Martinis in town.
The restaurant itself is spacious with high ceilings, lots of light, art, and a large bar that runs the length of the wall. It look like a bar in an old 1940’s movie. The place may seem intimidating at first, but it is actually cozy with a competent, friendly staff.
Martini’s has specials, the escargot, that is already de-shelled, is prepared in a butter sauce and served with sauteed vegetables. Not a bad deal for $5.95. The Tortellini special is a tender shell covered with a light sauce of grated cheese. The regular menu carries large gulf shrimp covered with a peanut sauce and served with cilantro rice. House cured pork loin and the standard chicken breast are also regulars on the menu. This dining experience comes at a reasonable price, range, beginning at $9.35.
Oliver’s, in a strip shopping center at 710 N. Buckner, is a pleasant surprise when you open the door. It is a nice little tea room type restaurant. Its decoration is colorful and cheerful with lace and doilies. Oliver’s is a place to take any member of the family, from small children to grandparents.
The menu is pretty typical with large tuna salads or chef salads that are served with fresh baked breads. The regulars like ruben sandwiches, and hamburgers are there if you want them. There are chef specials also, such as different types of meats in pastries. The prices range from $4.95 to $5.95 per dish. A good place for lunch.
