I’ll bet your history books didn’t cover Marie Antoinette’s brief stint as an aeronaut and crazed scientist. Thankfully, the rock musical “On the Eve” fills in our knowledge gaps with an “almost entirely true story of Marie Antoinette and the first time-traveling hot air balloon.”

This creative interpretation of the famous French queen’s life premiers this Friday, Nov. 30 and runs through Saturday, Dec. 15 at Margot Jones Theater in Fair Park’s Magnolia Lounge at 1121 First. Showtimes, listed here, are 8 p.m. most nights with 2 p.m. Sunday matinées. Tickets are $18-$25.

The music is produced by East Dallas-based band Home by Hovercraft, made up of Seth and Shawn Magill, a couple with “a great love story” who Rachel Stone wrote about last year. Creative partner Michael Federico wrote the play’s storyline. Earlier this year, they held a concert and party to raise funds for the musical.

Keep your ticket stub and get $5 off adult and children’s tickets at the nearby Chinese Lantern Festival, which is open 5-10 p.m. every day through Jan. 6. The night you see “On the Eve,” parking at the festival is free.
