At about 9:10 a.m. Tuesday a man walked into the Comerica bank on Garland Road near the Lochwood-Dixon Branch neighborhood, threw a green plastic bag on the counter and said, “I need $45,000 in the bag now,” according to a police report.

He proceeded to display his machete, which he carried in a white cardboard box under his right arm.

After the suspect pulled the machete from its box, the teller threw some cash in the green bag. Within seconds, witnesses say, the suspect yelled, “That’s enough! Give me the bag!” and then sprinted toward the front door where he dropped the machete-in-a-box.

Witnesses saw the man run into a nearby apartment.

Police soon arrested him with $85 of the bank’s money “on his person,” the report notes.
