Work on these last segments, from Belmont to Bell and Alta to Ross, almost doubles the size of the improved area, City Councilman Phillip Kingston says.

A few “unforeseen circumstances,” including moving utility lines, led the project to run over schedule by about three months and over budget by about $172,662. The total project cost is now almost $4.9 million, paid for from 2012 bond funds.

“I’m starting to get some pretty serious gripes about construction on the street, as we always do,” Kingston told city staff during Wednesday’s regular City Council meeting.

The Public Works department reported that is is on schedule for completion in August.
