Thursday through Monday, take in the Lone Star Circus at the Dallas Children’s Theater. See daredevils, jugglers, acrobats, clowns and animal performers. Shows are at various times throughout the week, and tickets range from $27-$45.
On Saturday, Nora will be hosting DJ Allen MD from local collective Soundalike on its rooftop. The event starts at 6 p.m. and is free.
Head to the Granada Theater for Texas native Bob Schneider’s show on Saturday night. Tickets are $54.
Make some room for that New Year’s Eve champagne with a morning run. The annual Loop-the-Lake around White Rock Lake begins at 7 a.m. at The Lot, on the southwest side of White Rock Lake. It benefits Marathon Kids, an organization aimed at eliminating childhood obesity. Participation is free, and donations go to the nonprofit. Hang around afterward for food, drinks and door prizes. Their goal is to raise $20,000 with 400 participants this year.
Enjoy a spoof on the sword and sandal epics of ancient times with “Hercules – The Melodrama” at Pocket Sandwich Theatre. The show is Saturday night at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25.
For a classy New Year’s Eve meal in the neighborhood, head to The Grape this weekend. The meals are $67 per person, and the two hour seatings begin at 5 p.m. Reservations are recommended.
There may not be any Texas teams in the big college football bowl games, but Capitol Pub will be hosting a watch party for the Rose Bowl, when our northern neighbors the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Georgia Bulldogs for a chance to play for the College Football Championship. The game starts at 3:30 p.m.
The School of Metaphysics invites neighbors to spend the new year at their annual peace celebration. Beginning at 8 p.m., there will be yoga, a poetry open mic, meditation, drum circle and a midnight reading of the The Universal Peace Covenant. The event is drug and alcohol free.
Beginning Jan. 1, check out the Bath House Cultural Center’s “A Celebration of Color,” where local and regional works have been assembled to express the power of color. The installation features paintings, sculpture, prints, electronic media and kinetic art, all by local artists, and is free to attend whenever the center is open.
