Lincoln Property Co., which recently bought part of the Lakewood Shopping Center, is planning a 15-acre retail development on the corners surrounding Gaston and Garland.

Lincoln has purchased the two-story retail development where Subway is, along with the former Backyard Beach Bar. The company has under contract the building that houses the White Rock YMCA and Far West nightclub.

We’ve also heard that there are plans for a Starbucks on what is now an empty lot, on the southwest corner. Robert Dozier of Lincoln Property Co. didn’t return our calls after we initially reported that an undisclosed buyer had the White Rock YMCA under contract. But he gave Steve Brown at the DMN the whole story. Dozier tells Brown: “We are looking at a big retail center. This is one of the best potential development sites in the city.”

Dozier says Lincoln is considering national retailers, including a supermarket.

From Brown’s story:

The redevelopment of the two corners will be a big step toward community leaders’ longtime goal of upgrading the intersection as a “gateway” to the east side of White Rock Lake. The Dallas Arboretum and popular residential areas are just north of the busy corner.

“We are excited and working with the city on this project,” Dozier said.
