Construction has begun
There’s dust flying at 1905 Greenville, the space at the corner of Greenville and Alta, which has had a bit of a rough run the last few years.
After the popular Lebanese restaurant Ali Baba closed (not to be confused with the Ali Baba that once occupied 1901 Abrams), the location was home to Jack’s Southern Comfort. Jack’s opened near the end of 2012 and then it promptly closed during the summer of 2013. A restaurant called JO24 had a brief stint at the location (remember that place?), and then neighbors welcomed Bohemian Cafe to the block, which only lasted a few months before calling it quits.
The space never stays vacant for long. Now a couple, James and Iana Price, have plans to open a Latin American restaurant called La Bodegas, and James insists he has what it takes to do it right and make it stick.
James is from Panama originally, although he says he has lived in Dallas most of his life. He’s the owner of Chombos at the Dallas Farmers Market, and he believes he has the experience and knowhow to make the space work, unlike the previous tenants, he says.
“I was raised in the restaurant business, and I always dreamed of being on Lower Greenville,” he says. “This opportunity has come open, so that’s where we are now.”
As for what we can expect, Price says, “It’ll be authentic food, not Tex-Mex.”
“It’s Latin cuisine, so a lot of Central American, Panamanian, a lot of Argentinean dishes, Puerto Rico, maybe Cuban,” he says.
