Lakewood has a plethora of breakfast options — from Jarams to The Heights and Kozy Kitchen. But it’s missing a notable eatery that was a neighborhood staple in the 1970s.

This 1974 footage from SMU Jones Film, shows the Waffle House at Kidwell Street and Gaston Avenue. In the video, police officers talk with neighbors outside the restaurant that had a retro neon sign. The words “We never close” were written on the side of an awning over the entry door.
