The Forest Hills chili cook-off benefiting Alex Sanger Elementary School is this Saturday, Oct. 15, and volunteers are needed. So the Forest Hills Service League, the organizer, is throwing a porch party Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m.

The party is at the home of Tamela and Chris Southan, 8431 San Leandro.

Tamela Southan founded the service league shortly after she moved to the neighborhood in 2005. Check out our profile of her in the October Advocate.

The porch party is an informal meet-your-neighbor kind of thing, but Southan and the league are looking for volunteers to help set up and take down the event, cook-off competitors and sponsors.

The chili cook-off fundraiser is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Sanger. Admission is free and a ticket to taste the chili costs $5.
