Fire Station 17 is fortunate to be in such close proximity to the Lakewood Heights Neighborhood Association.

Seems the LHNA folks have adopted the station and are working to help the fire fighters improve their furniture situation.

According to a post on the LHNA page, the current gathering-room furniture at Station 17 is unfortunate — “some very hard uncomfortable chairs, and a beat up leather couch.”

The men have ingeniously created a wooden bench covered with a thin strip of old carpet to put their feet up, but really to keep from sliding off the couch which suffers from a steep downward incline from age.

Neighborhood reps are collecting gently used furniture — a  couch or sectional, recliner, comfy chairs, tables or lamps, computer chairs for the dispatch desk … or a hookup on a flat screen. Contact wendeline@earthlink.net if you want to help out.

Once they get the redo done, neighbors and Station 17 hope to celebrate with a big reveal and a station tour.
