Kaye Simmons, the principal at Lakewood Elementary School, sent out a school-wide email on Sunday to say she won’t be returning to Lakewood Elementary in the fall.
She has accepted a position at a private school in Knoxville, Tennessee, she explained in her email.
“This offer came quite suddenly and out of the blue shortly before I left for vacation,” she writes. “After visiting the school, it became quite clear that this was an answer to prayer about many things in my life.”
She and her husband, Vern, along with their daughter, Emily, will be leaving for Knoxville at the end of July.
“I wish there was time for me to hug each and every one of you goodbye, but I hope you all know that you will remain in my heart, thoughts, and prayers forever,” she says.
If you’d like to wish Simmons farewell, there are two “very casual” farewell events planned that all are invited to join. The Simmons family will be at The Big Apple Bar & Grill off of Hwy 360 and Trinity Blvd. near DFW Airport on Friday, July 18 from 7-9 p.m. Simmons says she’s like to “have to have the lemon-pepper wings one last time.”
Also, their church is hosting a casual “drop in” event at a home in Colleyville on Saturday, July 19 from 6-8 p.m. The address is 3907 Windermere Dr. Colleyville, TX 76034.
