The artistic students at Lakehill Preparatory School took second place overall in the TAPPS State Art Competition.
With hands flecked with paint and chalk, Lakehill Preparatory Academy demonstrated its artistic prowess by taking second places in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) State Art Championship.
Lakehill Preparatory School student Sophia Liu took home ore medals than any one student in the competition.
Special mention goes to the most awarded student of the entire competition, Lakehill’s Sophia Liu, who earned an impressive seven medals for her various works. She won the most points by any one student, earning her the title of Individual State Champion.
For the competition in Waco, Visual Arts Chair Scott Boles selected a total of 23 pieces made by students in his drawing, painting and sculpture classes; work from Cat Huitt’s ceramics, weaving and printmaking classes; and the school’s yearbook cover. A total of 29 schools participated, but in the end Lakehill Prep won 18 medals in eight categories, earning a total of 80 points and finishing in second place overall.

- Drawing, black and white: Sophia Liu, seventh place; Lauren Luna, honorable mention.
- Drawing, color:Â Sophia Liu, second and third place; Lauren Luna, honorable mention.
- Communication Design: Sophia Liu, first and fourth place; Will Crutchfield, third place.
- Computer Rendered Art: Arjun Agrawal, fifth place.
- Painting: Sophia Liu, first and second place; Alex Tracy, sixth place.
- Sculpture: Charity Abengowe, third place; Steven Murff, seventh place.
- Textile Arts: Kaeli Bunger, third place.
- Ceramics: Ashley Peacock, sixth place; Steven Murff, eighth place; Lauren Luna, honorable mention.
