Yesterday, in Casner’s Ali Baba post‘s comments, I took what could have been perceived as a swing at Kitchen 1924, noting that during lunch they were almost completely empty. I should note that I’ve been to K-1924 on numerous occasions and always enjoyed myself. Just now, Jeff Siegel forwarded me an e-mail dated May 21 that touted: "Kitchen 1924 is open for lunch!"

I’ve been on maternity leave for three months and had no idea that at some point they’d closed for lunch. Anyway, now they’ve reopened with a new lunch menu, which includes "Lakewood Lunch Boxes" to go. If you’ve ever ready any of Anthony Bourdain‘s books — or just have a common-sense knowledge of the restaurant industry — you know that things like closing for lunch, then re-opening with a new menu, etc., can often be a sign of trouble.

That said, I genuinely like Kitchen 1924. I like the stamp it puts on neighborhood dining. It’s not Tex-Mex, it’s not Italian, it has deviled eggs on the menu. The new menu — sandwich-heavy with eight selections, plus soups and salads and something called "Big Boy Plates" — looks pretty good, and I hope East Dallasites embrace it.

I’m planning on picking up a lunchbox from there later today. I’ll post a quick review later.
