It’s because the last time a Dallas ISD school won the 5A UIL championship was Carter High School in 1988. But Carter was stripped of its title after an investigation into the team revealed one of its star players was academically ineligible.

So really, it has been 63 years since a DISD school won a state championship.

Joe Boring, who used to coach at W.T. White, Woodrow Wilson and Lake Highlands High School, was on that 1950 Sunset High School team. Boring was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in 2013 and also used to be a scout for the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Boring helped his team finish a 9-2 season with a 14-6 win over Houston Reagan.
