Society Bakery is now open at 1926 Skillman St. across from in the Skillman Live Oak shopping center.

Since 2003, Society Bakery has served handmade baked goods on
Greenville Avenue. With a vision to expand and lease ending soon, owners Roshi Muns and Emily Cassady said it was time for them to relocate. The bakery’s new space is almost twice as large and consists of a dining room, a bakery shop and a tea room, all French-inspired.

The new space includes two party rooms, one for kids, and one for adults, which the bakery has only been able to accommodate a few small parties over the years.

Muns said the opening on Skillman Street is like “moving into a new house.”

There has been an increase in walk-in traffic compared to the previous location since moving to the new corner spot, Muns said.

“This neighborhood is just really supportive already,” Muns said.

Though the bakery is known for its sweet treats, Muns and Cassady said they were more excited about their tea offerings.

Upon entering the tea room, guests are encouraged to stay a while and choose from over ten hot tea flavors made in DFW. When selecting the teas, Cassady said she was inspired by her research and tastings from different tea places around Europe, which led to similar findings locally.

“We wanted to cultivate this really sophisticated feeling where you sit and relax and take a minute and not feel rushed,” Cassady said.

Their purpose for creating the tea room was to provide an accessible space for all to enjoy tea culture.

Starting in January, Society Bakery plans to bring Mahjong, a tile-based game established in China during the 19th century. The game is open to all and will take place in the tea room continuing every Tuesday.

Society Bakery’s hours are Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and reservations made through Resy.

After a busy first few weeks, Society Bakery is back in the bakehouse prepping for Valentine’s Day.
