The M Streets neighborhood gets a great ranking in the recently released Walk Score compiled by a Seattle software company. Among the 26 Dallas neighborhoods that were ranked, the M Streets came in at No. 3, with a walkability score of 75 out of 100. Only the West End and Oak Lawn ranked higher, and the M Streets tied with University Park. (South Dallas ranked at the bottom.) Lakewood, however, is lumped in with a huge area that Walk Score defines as Northeast Dallas, which is No. 13 with a walkability score of 54. You’d think the neighborhood that contains one of the largest urban parks in the world would get separated out with its own ranking, but no. … Among the 40 cities ranked overall, Dallas was No. 24, the highest-ranking city in Texas. (Houston was 26th, Austin 29th, and El Paso, San Antonio and Fort Worth ranked 31st, 32nd and 33rd, in that order. (Jacksonville, Fla., was ranked least walkable.)
