No one was injured Wednesday when an electrical short likely caused a fire at the La Quinta Inn near Knox Street and Henderson Avenue, a spokesman for Dallas Fire Rescue said.

Firefighters responded around 5:45 a.m. to the hotel at 4440 North Central Expressway. Upon arrival, they saw smoke coming from the roof of the two-story building.

They extinguished a small fire in the ceiling above a restroom in a second-floor unit, fire spokesman Jason Evans said. Investigators said the blaze was accidental in nature and was likely caused by an electrical short in the fixed wiring of the bathroom.

Most of the damage was located in an exhaust fan in the bathroom ceiling.

Of the 101 rooms at the hotel, 61 were occupied. Most tenants evacuated before firefighters arrived. A tenant had rented the room where the fire started but was gone when the blaze erupted.
