A couple weeks ago, Sunset Bay’s swan, who some call “Katie,” “Lady Katharine” or “Lady K,” received an injury at her home at White Rock Lake.
Once neighbors noticed Katie wasn’t doing well, someone picked her up and took her to Kathy Rogers with the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, who took Katie in and discovered the swan had an object the size of a baseball, probably a piece of plastic or trash, lodged in her throat.
For a couple weeks, Katie was very sick and needed expensive treatment. Unfortunately, the rehab center is struggling to stay afloat financially, which led it to launch a fundraising effort.
With the help of Rogers and neighbors, Katie has been on the mend and is now going to be returned to her home today at 11 a.m.
