Dale Merchant, who teaches science at the school, will fill the role beginning next school year.

The previous teacher, Eliana Tseng, died in January. She had taught at the school since 2009.

Tseng started the STEM/robotics program in 2012, and while she led it, the school won about 40 trophies.

One of her students wrote about Tseng and her legacy for May issue of The Advocate. Read the story here.

Merchant, who’s from Antigua and Barbuda, has a degree in environmental science from Antigua State College and a bachelor’s in biology from Midwestern State University.

His goal for the STEM Academy is to “honor the past, prepare the present and lead the future,” according to the school newsletter.
