The old washateria on Oram will soon be Kitchen, a fast-casual, prepared meal and catering restaurant run by a longtime East Dallas restaurateur.

Owner and head chef Scott Jones, who ran the short-lived Jack’s Southern Comfort Food on Lower Greenville, will be resurrecting the idea as Jack’s Modern Southern Kitchen and adding Dallas Meatball Kitchen to the menu, which will focus on healthy southern and Italian food that are low in carbs, fat and can be made gluten-free.

In addition to prepared meals, Kitchen will sell spice mixes, fresh pastries, and will have free snacks for the kids after school while parents shop for dinner. “I want to cater to the neighborhood,” Jones says.

Neighbors can pre-order dinner for the week for $19.95 per meal for a family of four, but the menu will not be all Italian and southern (though there will be four kinds of biscuits). Jones wants to give himself some flexibility, so if he wants to cook Mexican or Asian, he can.

Jones has been in the restaurant business for years, creating Screen Door and Cafe Italia before Jack’s on Greenville, and more recently has run Food Hugs Kitchen, a catering and meal delivery business.

“We hope to be a great addition to the neighborhood and offer something that isn’t being offered,” he says.

Kitchen will start delivering meals next week and the storefront should be open by Oct. 23.
