The late-night establishment will debut in Deep Ellum on New Year’s Eve. Doors open at 9 p.m. DJ Five and DJ Jampagne will be there that evening.

Robert Drummond, Ian Fletcher and Caleb Kilborn are the co-owners of the bar. Fletcher grew up in Lake Highlands.

Construction began last December at 2625 Floyd St. The building used to house a youth center and was demolished, leaving three exterior walls. It was rebuilt as a two-story bar with outdoor seating and was expected to be three times larger than the original location on 6th Street.

Green Light Social was founded in 2016. Inspiration for the venue came from the Prohibition era. “Green door” was a common term for speakeasy, and lit or unlit green lights marked its accessibility.

There are three sections in the bar: a cocktail lounge and patio bar, a DJ-driven dance area and a reservation-only hidden bar called the Ruby Room, which is named for Jack Ruby, a former Dallas nightclub owner who killed Lee Harvey Oswald.
