Facilitated by the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce (GEDCC), nominations for the annual Teacher of the Year Awards have opened. According to their website, the award is intended “to recognize educators who are providing outstanding education for their respective students. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs that are serving to improve and promote education.”

Six awards will be given out, with a cash prize of $250 given to the winning teacher and an additional $250 given to the school. Teachers from grade level K-12 are eligible, public or private school.

Last year’s winners were Brittnay Connor, Geneva Heights Elementary School; Shaun Phillips, Alex Sanger Preparatory School; Steven Ramirez, Bryan Adams High School; Jordan Gusa, Zion Lutheran School; Will Keffler, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and Adam Jochelson, Lakehill Preparatory School.

The teacher submission deadline is Sunday, March 31. The winners will be announced at on Wednesday, April 17, at St. John’s Episcopal School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
