For years, owners Misty and Rowdy Heddin, of Canton, sold their goods during the spring and summer seasons at farmers markets in Garland and Mesquite. But when Misty retired, she got bored, and the couple decided to take their business indoors.

“Our markets don’t start until March, and I can’t wait that long,” Misty said.

When looking for a brick-and-mortar location, Rowdy remembered the conversations he had with neighbors while delivering firewood to the area.

“They said, ‘It would be great for the community if we could get something like a fresh produce shop,'” Misty said. “We found a place, and we just want to see how this goes. The community response has been amazing.”

The store’s food supply comes directly from farmers in south and east Texas. None is stored in a warehouse. In addition to fresh produce and meat, the shop also carries bath bombs, candles and goat-milk soap.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. five days a week, Thursday through Monday. It will be open seven days a week during the summer.

The Heddins, who make the approximately one-hour drive from Canton each day, will continue to sell at farmers markets on the weekends in the summer.

“We’re trying to bring a little country to the city,” Misty said.
