Top o’ Texas Tower at Fair Park

Fair Park is celebrating it’s 80th anniversary this week with free events and fireworks beginning tonight.

Today through Saturday the park will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with museums and exhibits open during the day and special events taking place at night.

Tonight at 8 p.m. the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform a special outdoor concert at Fair Park’s Court of Honor. The concert, conducted by Assistant Conductor Karina Canellakis, will feature light classics, movie music and other selections.

A wine stroll will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees can sample an array of red and white wines at pour stations around the park. Live music and activities will also be held throughout the park.

Friday beginning at 5 p.m. a kids zone will be set up with a zip line, lawn games, obstacle course, vintage carousel, playground equipment and a water slide. There will also be Midway games, ferris wheel and tower rides, live music, visual artists and plenty of food.

Friday night will feature something for parents as well. Starting at 7 p.m. the African American Museum will host a jazz and blues concert featuring the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy Jazz Band, Sherel Riley, Joyce Lofton and jazz quartet Herbie Johnson.

A fireworks show will begin after the concert.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with multiples stages of live music and visual artists. At 5 p.m. Fair Park will host the main event, an 80th anniversary concert featuring Brave Combo, The Quebe Sisters and The Maverick’s.

The concert will conclude with a fireworks display.

All of the events are free and open to the public.
