It was named one of the biggest restaurant openings of 2015, but less than two years later Wayward Sons closed after its final service on Valentine’s Day.
“It is truly fitting that we closed Wayward Sons on a day that revolves around love. The amount of love that went into this project is unparalleled to anything I have ever done before, and I know my partners Phil and Graham feel the same way,” said owner Brandon Hays in a press release.
If Sons’ well-known chef Graham Dodds has his sights set on another kitchen, he hasn’t announced it publicly.
Wayward Sons is the latest in a growing string of restaurant change-overs on Greenville in recent months, including Clark Wine and Food Co., Remedy, Knuckles and C’Viche.
SaSa Sushi opened on Gaston in February 2017.
Gaston, however, has been flourishing with new restaurants in the past year, specifically around the Lakewood Shopping Center, including SugarBacon Proper Kitchen, Unleavened Kitchen and Roots Juices. SaSa Sushi joined that mixed recently, offering a fresh selection of classic rolls and other Japanese delights. The sushi spot took over the space previously held by Jerry’s Wood-Fire Dogs, but has completely overhauled it with a clean, modern design highlighted by lots of natural wood. The business is open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 5-10 p.m. for dinner, except Friday when they stay open till 11 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, hours are noon-11 p.m. and noon-9 p.m. respectively.
Up at 9003 Garland Road, Jimmy John’s is adding a new location, which is currently undergoing a $195,000 remodel. The site used to house a Infinity nail salon, but soon sandwiches will be available. No word yet on an opening date.
