At The Grape, Martha is a patron saint who watches over the restaurant from the vantage point of the office. It’s a cute story told to me by general manager Courtney Luscher about an icon presented as a gift to one of the cooks, which has now been adopted by the rest of the restaurant staff. Martha is, as some readers may know (I did not), the patron saint of cooks and servers.
Saint Martha’s feast day is today (Thursday, July 29), and Luscher and her husband, chef/owner Brian Luscher, are celebrating with The Feast of Saint Martha, a three-course dinner for $36 this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, of which $5 will go to The Stewpot. So you can dine at a fabulous neighborhood restaurant and support a great cause — sounds like a religious experience to me.
