However, in December 2013 the Advocate showcased the work of 12-year-old Kate Langley who created paintings and mixed-media art pieces relating to current events. That year was her seventh time showcasing her artwork at Art Conspiracy, which raises money for charities within Dallas.

In 2013 the funds went toward My Possibilities, a nonprofit in Plano that helps adults with cognitive disabilities further their education.

Langley’s painting sold for $400 at Art Con 9 and was presented to the Sixth Floor Museum.

On top of that accomplishment, she also received the Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service Award, an award given by the president of the United States to honor individuals who do more than 100 hours of volunteer service in a year.
