“The neighborhood is very enticing,” says Suzy Monford, EZ’s general manager in Dallas. “It’s an eclectic neighborhood with a real strong sense of community.

The restaurant chain specializes in “America’s favorite food” and is geared towards families. Grilled hamburgers, salads, pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven, milkshakes featuring Blue Bell ice cream are menu favorites, Monford says.

“The reception’s been great,” Monford says. “We’re hoping to become part of the community.”

The building, which was occupied by a wedding supply rental business, is being renovated for EZ’s. The restaurant’s plumbing and trade-mark wood burning oven are being added, in addition to a patio in the front.

But the company also wants to ensure the building keeps its historical appeal, says Susan Korbel, marketing with Cheers Inc., the San Antonio business that owns EZ’s.

“We like to take older structures and improve upon them,” Korbel says. “We really try to make it look cool, but also take the integrity of the neighborhood in to consideration.”

Clements, Realtors’ Scott Coghlin, whose company listed the property, says EZ’s should help attract more family-oriented businesses into the area, especially to neighboring properties.

“What we fell is going to happen is that the area will actually be a miniature restaurant row,” Coghlin says.

The Greenville restaurant is the fourth Dallas-area EZ’s. The other locations are in Plano, Bedford and the old Kip’s restaurant at Hillcrest and Northwest Highway. The chain started in San Antonio, where there are three restaurants, and also has a location in Corpus Christi.

“It’s not just a fast-food place, but then again there’s no tip because it’s self-serve,” Korbel says. “It’s one of the few places that all people can feel comfortable in.”
