Two restaurants in East Dallas have made Yelp’s list of the Top 100 Places to Eat in Texas this year.
Mami Coco, which has two locations in our neighborhood, came in at No. 10 in the state, and it’s the highest-ranked Dallas restaurant on the list. Restaurants were ranked using factors such as the total volume and ratings of reviews between Jan. 1, 2021, and May 1, 2023.
The original Mami Coco is on Bryan Street at North Carroll Avenue, and the second one, which opened in 2022, is at the Samuell-Grand intersection, right next to the other East Dallas eatery that made the list: Mixtitos Kitchen.
Tacos and enchiladas are the most popular orders at Mami Coco, which is owned by Gustavo De Los Rios, but the restaurant also sells flautas, sopes and quesadillas. In 2021, Mami Coco made Yelp’s list, coming in at No. 76 in the top 100 places to eat in Texas. And last year, the restaurant was named one of the best taco spots in the country.

Mixtitos, located in the former La Acapulqueña at 2706 Samuell Blvd., is No. 94 on the list.
It is the first restaurant chef Jose Luis Rodriguez has owned, though he has been in the restaurant industry for decades.
The restaurant, which opened in 2022, offers fusion dishes with Mexican, American, French and Japanese influences.
