Historic DISD buildings top the newest list of the city’s most endangered historic resources. Preservation Dallas released its annual list this morning. The Davy Crocket School on North Carroll Avenue and Oran M. Roberts Elementary School were cited as examples.

“While it is clear that may DISD schools … require updating … the solution is NOT to demolish these venerable and beloved schools that are important landmarks to the city and its history,” the Preservation Dallas report states.

Vacant former public libraries also were included in the list. Among them, the former Casa View Branch Library. It was designed by architect William H. Hidell and opened in 1964.

Deep Ellum made the list for the third year in a row: “As Deep Ellum is potentially redeveloped … the existing character becomes an asset to preserve and enhance.”

And Preservation Dallas put the city’s historic preservation program on the list. The city’s budget for historic preservation was cut 50 percent last year.
